Nanotechnology, Fuel Cells and Ceramic Armor sessions slated for the 30th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites - Cocoa Beach, Florida
WESTERVILLE, OHIO, November 7, 2005 — The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) in conjunction with the ACerS Engineering Ceramics Division and Nuclear and Environmental Technology Division are hosting the 30th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites in Cocoa Beach, Florida happening January 22-27, 2006.

This is the leading conference and exposition on advanced ceramics and composites and includes exciting topical sessions on Nanotechnology, Fuel Cells and Ceramic Armor. This conference boasts seven symposia topics comprised of over 500 technical presentations and posters that provide information on the latest advances, applications and successes in advanced ceramics and composites. Key scientists, technologists, engineers and entrepreneurs are expected to come together to discover and exchange current information. Over 45 exhibitors showcasing materials, equipment and supplies are participating.

“Our 2006 meeting marks the 30th anniversary of this conference. This program continues the tradition of previous Cocoa Beach meetings by addressing core fundamentals and timely topics on the leading edge of ceramic science and technology,” said Edgar Lara-Curzio, 2006 Program Chairperson.

This conference and exposition is designed to be highly interactive and promote information exchange among scientists, technologists, engineers, entrepreneurs and exhibitors involved in advanced ceramics. An application-oriented technical program has been developed which features presentations on these symposia topics:

  • Synthesis of Processing of Nanostructured Materials – featuring the results of current basic and applied research with emphasis on methods and potential commercial applications.
  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cells – an international forum for discussing recent technical progress on materials-related aspects of fuel cells and emerging trends in electrochemical materials, electrodics, interface engineering and long-term chemical interactions.
  • Ceramic Armor – continuing the search for novel materials concepts for both vehicle and body armors and exploring the relationship between computational modeling and property testing.
  • Ceramics in Nuclear and Alternative Energy Applications – new to the conference technical program, sessions covering recent advances in ceramics and ceramic matrix composites for use in fission and fusion reactors, nuclear fuels and alternative energy applications.
  • Bioceramics and Biocomposites – exploring the interface between biology and ceramic materials.
  • Mechanical Properties and Performance – featuring presentations on the underlying links between microstructure and properties and the ability to achieve desired multifunctional properties through innovative processing techniques.
  • Advanced Ceramic Coatings – focusing on recent advances in coating development, processing, microstructure and property characterization and life prediction.
