FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
International Textures of Materials Conference Dedicated to Advancing All Aspects of Texture Research

WESTERVILLE, OHIO, June 27, 2007 — The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) are hosting the 15th International Conference on Textures of Materials (ICOTOM 15) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, June 1-5, 2008 at the Carnegie Mellon University Center.

This conference brings together a substantial international community of influential scientists and engineers who share an interest in the development of a better understanding of texture in materials. Discussions cover all aspects of texture research including experimental characterization, influence on materials properties, and development of models, which is of value to many areas of materials research. Symposia topics for the 2008 event include:

  • Friction Stir Welding and Processing
  • Thin Films (Microelectrics, HTSC)
  • Texture of Anisotropy in Steels
  • Texture at Non-Ambient Conditions
  • Novel Texture Measurement Techniques
  • Complex Oxides and Other Compounds
  • Interface Textures
  • Effects of Magnetic Fields
  • Hexagonal Metals
  • Recrystallization Texture: Retrospective vs. Current Problems
  • Polymers and Biomaterials
  • Texture in Materials Design
  • Texture Effects on Damage Accumulation
  • Digital Microstructures

“For 30 years, this event has been dedicated to advancing all aspects of texture research and application in all crystalline forms, focusing on the development of experimental and theoretical tools for texture research, the improvement of prediction of texture and anisotropy and utilization of texture in relevant areas,” stated, Dr. Anthony D. Rollett, Organizing Committee Chairman.

Newcomers to the field who attend this conference can quickly acquaint themselves with state-of-the-art theoretical concepts and sophisticated experimental techniques developed over many years of texture research. A series of special workshops ranging from in-depth theoretical reviews to hands-on training courses conducted by distinguished lecturers will provide additional relevant information to those new to this research area.

Individuals who are interested in presenting their work at this event are invited to submit an abstract online before August 1, 2007.

Symposia details and abstract submission information are available by logging on to www.ceramics.org/ICOTOM15.
