American Ceramic Society Bulletin to Publish the GlassResearcher
WESTERVILLE, OHIO — The NSF Industry-University Center for Glass Research (CGR) and The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) have entered into an agreement to publish the GlassResearcher as a quarterly feature section in the American Ceramic Society Bulletin (Bulletin) beginning in January 2004.

By agreement, the CGR editorial review board, made up of interested individuals from CGR member companies, will continue to select topics and identify authors for each quarterly section, with one or two members acting as guest editors. Historically, authors have been solicited from among university faculty members, industrial scientists and engineers, and others in the worldwide glass technology community. Direct affiliation with CGR has not been a requirement.

In 2004, the GlassResearcher articles will focus on future directions for glass melting technology, with two articles devoted to that subject and one article devoted to another timely topic. After publication in the Bulletin, the articles will be made available on CGR’s public website, cgr.alfred.edu.

ACerS and its Glass & Optical Materials Division and CGR expect this new joint effort to better serve the glass industry worldwide by informing a broader audience about the important scientific and technological advances in glass.

###

About CGR and the GlassResearcher: The NSF Industry-University Center for Glass Research is a multi-university cooperative research center that has been operating under guidelines established by the National Science Foundation since 1985. Its members represent all segments of the glass industry. Its mission is “to advance the field of glass science and engineering through research, education, and technology exchange driven by the cooperative efforts of academe, industry and government.” The lead site is located at Alfred University, with sites for research on glass surfaces, interfaces and coatings at The Pennsylvania State University and research on refractories used in glassmaking at the University of Missouri-Rolla.

CGR began publishing the GlassResearcher in 1990, with the goals of identifying the latest technologies of relevance to the glass industry, emphasizing research, highlighting developments in glass science and engineering, and focusing on CGR as the foremost international center for glass science and engineering. The publication was founded at Alfred University by Professor L. David Pye, founding director of CGR, and Margaret A. Rasmussen, who served as the editor through 2002.

About ACerS and the Bulletin: The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) is an international association of scientists, engineers, and industrialists, who are active in the creation of new products, applications and research on glass, ceramics, and related materials. ACerS serves more than 8,000 members and 50,000 subscribers in 80 countries with books, periodicals, meetings and expositions, continuing education courses and online technical information.

In print and online, the American Ceramic Society Bulletin focuses on current and emerging developments in materials, processes and equipment that impact the global ceramics and glass industries. The Bulletin now offers dual-media content with full-text features accessible online to subscribers. Topical features highlight the latest available technology, including coverage of new R&D programs, analytical techniques, manufacturing processes and new products.
