5th International Conference on
High-Temperature Ceramic Matrix Composites Held in Seattle
|
WESTERVILLE,
OHIO - The 5th International Conference on High-Temperature Ceramic
Matrix Composites (HTCMC-5) will be co-located with the 56th Pacific
Coast Regional and Basic Science Division Fall Meeting (PCRM) in Seattle,
Wash., Sept. 12-16, 2004, at the Red Lion Hotel on Fifth Ave.
Ceramic matrix composites are enabling materials for a number of high
temperature and demanding applications in aerospace, power generation,
ground transportation, nuclear, environmental, and chemical industries.
Tremendous progress has been made in technology development, manufacturing,
commercialization, and applications of these materials over the last few
years. However, significant challenges still remain for their widespread
use in these applications.
HTCMC-5 in Seattle continues the tradition of highly successful meetings
previously held in Bordeaux (France, 1993), Santa Barbara (USA, 1995),
Osaka (Japan, 1998) and Munich (Germany, 2001). This conference series
is recognized as the central meeting event in high temperature ceramic
matrix composite science and technology. Co-location with the 56th Pacific
Coast Regional and Basic Science Division Fall Meeting of The American
Ceramic Society adds a very special feature to HTCMC-5. The PCRM/BSD program
will cover: porous ceramics, novel ceramic processing, microstructural
effects on ceramic properties, and ceramics for energy applications.
Attendees at both meetings will have full access to all technical sessions
and the tabletop exhibit. Social functions will be held jointly.
The HTCMC-5 conference will cover all areas related to science, technology,
and applications of high temperature ceramic matrix composites. Special
emphasis has been placed on addressing key technical and economic challenges,
success stories, and emerging technologies which are expected to open “new
frontiers and horizons” for ceramic matrix composites in the 21st
century.
The tabletop exhibit provides exhibitors with the opportunity to meet
face-to-face with professionals involved in the research, engineering,
manufacture and sales of ceramic composites. The exposition will be open
Monday, Sept. 13, from 6-8 p.m.; Tuesday,
Sept. 14, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m.; and Wednesday, Sept. 15,
from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
To register or for more details visit, www.ceramics.org/htcmc5 or call
614/794-5890.
HTCMC-5 is hosted by The American Ceramic Society (ACerS). The conference
is endorsed by: European Society for Composite Materials, French Society
for Composite Materials (AMAC), German Ceramic Society (DKG), Ceramic Society
of Japan, American Institute of Chemical Engineers and SAMPE.
ACerS is an international association of scientists, engineers and industrialists
who are active in the creation of new products, applications and research
regarding ceramics and related materials. ACerS serves more than 8,000
members and subscribers in 80 countries with periodicals and books, meetings
and expositions, and online technical information.
