International Conference on Ferrites Returns to United States
WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The International Advisory Committee and the U.S. Organizing Committee are pleased to announce that for the second time in its history, the International Conference on Ferrites will be held in San Francisco, Ca. The last time this conference was held in the United States was 1984.

The conference will be hosted by The American Ceramic Society (ACerS), Aug. 22-27, 2004, at the Cathedral Hill Hotel. ICF 9 is sponsored by the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy, endorsed by the American Physical Society, and has the IEEE Magnetics Society as a cooperating sponsor. The International Magnetics Association is co-sponsoring a special symposium on ferrite applications.

The 2004 International Conference on Ferrites (ICF 9) is the ninth in a series of conferences that provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest scientific and technological developments in ferrites (magnetic ceramics) and related materials.

The conference will cover all areas of basic science and technology for ferrites and related materials. Special emphasis will be placed on advanced findings and emerging technologies that are expected to open new horizons for ferrites in the twenty-first century. More than 200 presentations on the results of academic, technical, and industrial studies will be given. A tour of the Advanced Light Source at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory also is planned.

The ICF 9 Technical Program will cover:
• Science—chemistry, physics, crystal growth, microstructure and more
• Processing—raw materials, manufacturing, facilities
• Applications—soft and hard magetic materials, recording media, magneto-optics, microwave ferrites, bio magnets, power magnets, transducers and sensors
• Special Topic Areas—nano-ferrites, magnetic fluids and devices, multilayer chip inductors, emerging technologies for the 21st century

The tabletop exhibit provides exhibitors with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with professionals involved in the research, engineering and manufacture of magnetic ceramics. The exhibit will be open Sunday, Aug. 22, from 6-8 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
